Seven Insurance Companies Under Obamacare Have Pulled Out of the Arizona Marketplace for Next Year, Leaving 13 of the State’s 15 Counties with the Prospect of Just One Provider in 2017.  Up to 2.1 million people will likely have to change plans for 2017 due to insurers leaving states' Affordable Care Act marketplaces, up from more than 1.2 million who had to find new insurers last year.
Federal officials “remain confident” that Arizona residents will have options and Adler Insurance in Prescott wants to discuss options for medicare advantage plans in Prescott.

Phoenix Health Plans have left Arizona and Adler Insurance provides information on how this affects Medicare Advantage Plans in PrescottPhoenix Health Plans is the latest in a string of insurers that have scaled back coverage in Arizona. Phoenix Health Plans joins Aetna, Health Choice, Humana, UnitedHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Health Net, all of which have pulled out or pulled back from an ACA marketplace in Arizona where many were losing money.  These latest assessments show how leery insurers are of the costs and rules associated with selling on the ACA exchanges.

Stephen Briggs, a spokesman for Arizona’s Department of Insurance, said there is little the state can do to lure insurers back into the marketplace.  While the state may not have plans to bring insurers back into the marketplace, U.S. Department of Health and Human Service officials “remain confident that all Arizona residents will have access to coverage next year,” department spokeswoman Marjorie Connolly said in an emailed statement.
